No, you don't need to buy any other accessories if you have bought games with the PS3.

But, If your son is going to be playing games with more than one person on the PS3, then a second controller would be good because the PS3 only comes with one controller.

Also if you have a HD tv i would invest in a HD Lead as this brings the console out of its shell :P

but if he is going to play with other people or with you for example, you will need another controller as you might have noticed the ps3 comes with 1 controller. Or if he wishes to play online, then you will need a broadband connection and playing online is free :D.

Another issue is HD, if you have a HD television then you might need to buy a component or HDMI cable to get the best quality out of your ps3, because the ps3 only comes with standard cables (composite). But even the standard cables are good quality, its just that if you want to get High Defintion then you will need buy an extra cable depending on your TV. Otherwise your son is ready to go. :D
