How do I install child seat top tether anchors in a 1998 Cadillac Seville?
I asked my Cadillac dealer to install three top tether anchors for child seats in a 1998 Seville. The parts came in, but he says they can't install them. The shelf in the back seems too flimsy, and they don't think the anchors will hold. It makes no sense to me that a car made in 1998 would have no secure anchor points, and that GM would be willing to provide a kit for a project that is impossible. I think the problem is with the dealer, and they just don't know where the anchor points are. Has anyone had tether anchors installed in a pre-2000 Seville? Please advise.
Another detail - yes the tether kit is mentioned in the owner's manual but there are no details as to how to install it. The owner's manual says a dealer should be able to do it.
Problem solved. The dealer bought in their best technician and he installed a steel brace. The anchor points are now rock solid, and they hide nicely underneath the headrests. He did both outboard seats but not the center because a speaker is in the way. I'm very impressed with Cadillac's service. Thanks for all your answers.

Check out this website....car-safety.org. It has a forum where you can ask this question and get an answer. It also has information on tether installations. Check the vehicle owner's manual for information about where the anchors should be installed. The kit should be specific for that year and model. Try contacting GM Customer Service directly to find a more "customer friendly dealership"....they might charge for the installation, but at least you would have them!
